Labeling Advantages with a Monarch Gun

Label guns from Monarch Paxar help offer so much convenience to retail shops.  Some places handwrite prices on tags.  Hand writing is time consuming if you need to price a dozen or more items.  It’s shown that the Monarch 1110 pricing gun can tag 18 items in just five seconds!  If it’s necessary to have more information on a label or tag such as a product number in addition to the price, two line tools such as the Monarch 1136 and 1115 are available.

The time and effort savings are maximized even more when dealing with the two and three line guns.  Trying to hand write that amount of information on a single label often results in unreadable print which negates all the effort.  Additional time and effort savings is achieved when customer confusion and bookkeeping errors are minimized.  The printing of the labeler makes for legible characters.  The Monarch 1153 is a terrific example.  Labeling with a Monarch gun helps your products look more presentable and appealing to the customer.

Operating the tools is pretty simple.  Loading the guns will only take about 25 seconds once you get the hang of it.  Loading the Monarch labels once or twice will be all it takes to get the process down pat.  Instructions are included with every new gun.

Shelf Life and Preservation of Pricing Labels

The good news is that the shelf life for these little stickers is rather extensive.  Monarch labels come with a recommended life of two years.  This time frame is pretty standard across the industry.  Garvey labels come with the same recommendation.

Over the past decade improvements have been made to the adhesive formulas that allow them to perform better and retain their tacky properties longer.  We have seen and talked to customers who have used pricing stickers from five, six, even seven years old and they work well.  The Monarch 1131 labels in this example had been ordered seven years prior and found in a drawer.  The customer found that the stickers still went through the 1131 price gun smoothly and the Monarch labels applied and adhered well to the items’ surface.

Storage of your pricing supplies inventory is key to ensuring the stickers keep.  You must store in an area of at least room temperature.  Meto labels come with a storage recommendation of 68 to 78 degrees printed right on the box.  Primark labels are packed in identical boxes.  An area where temperatures are consistently above 90 degrees Fahrenheit is not good for the adhesive.  Keeping the price labels cooler is ideal.  If you have a refrigerator with available space, put the box of tags in there if you know they will need to last a while.

The Garvey Price Gun Slug

The slug option is perfect for people looking to print a custom message on every label, but who don’t use enough labels to justify paying the higher cost of custom labels.  The slug fits right into a designed slot in the Contact price gun or G-Series.  It follows the path of the print head as you pull the hand trigger.  The slug gets inked by the Garvey ink roller along with the numbers on the print head and marks the label.  The Garvey 22-8 offers this feature.

This attribute gives the Garvey Contact and G-Series a real advantage over other manufacturers when dealing with a lower volume customer that needs a specific message in addition to a price or date.  When designing the various Garvey label guns, they made sure to engineer the slug to function very well.  If you’re looking to have a custom label but you don’t use tens of thousands of labels this might be the option for you.  Give us a call and we’ll discuss your application.

The Increasing Need for Date Coding for Retail and Industrial Bakeries

Having a clear and visible date code on perishable food items is an ever growing need in this country.  Food inspectors want to see legible information and dates on products.  Traceability within the production plant all the way to the consumer is necessary to ensure fresh product.  There are a handful of ways to date code a product at the production plant.  Handheld labelers can be used as the primary means, or a back up should a marking machine go down.

The 1110 pricing gun from Monarch Paxar has many users due to its vertical label dispensing.  With the label coming out vertically, there is less of a need to press the gun itself to the product to apply the label.  The 1110-06 is a great choice for dating and pricing on one, smaller label.  Departments such as bakeries and delis in grocery stores have a big need for this tool.  The Primark P-14 eight band gun has backslashes (/) in the right spots to mark a date such as this example; 11/15/10.  Retail bakeries looking to just mark a date on a tray of pastries on display or any perishable in the store would fine their employees and customers can easily identify the date.

For applications where a SKU, lot, line number, or another type of identification code is necessary in addition to a date, two line tools such as the Monarch 1115 and Monarch 1136 are great.  Combinations of alpha numeric options are able to be marked by the guns.  Please view all the available band layouts for the tools on their own product pages.

Student Book Stores Use Pricing Labels

As the back to school month of August starts, many university book stores are stocking up on their supplies.  Book stores use all different types of labels.  Monarch labels, Garvey labels, and Meto labels seem to be the most popular.  The Meto pricing labels have the wavy edge design that can help grab a student’s attention.  Helping the students see the prices of the books on their way to the register will help the checkout line move more effectively as the buyers will have time to prepare the correct amount of money for the purchases.  A Meto price gun is available in different print sizes.

A Garvey price gun is a great choice as well.  Garvey Contact or G-Series tools are very nice options.  Monarch pricing guns such as the one line Monarch 1131 and Monarch 1110 are the most frequently purchased tools from book stores.  If two lines of printing are needed, the Monarch 1136 is the tool.  Different adhesive options are available for the labels of all the different models of price guns, such as a removable or “book” adhesive.  This adhesive is formulated to not leave a residue on the book when the label is removed.  We can always be reached at 800-346-7820 to discuss your exact application and recommend the best label guns for you.
